Hand luggage, made simple.
What you can take on board, typical sizes and what to watch for with low-cost fares.
Personal item
Almost every fare includes one small personal item, such as a backpack or handbag, that fits under the seat in front of you. A common size is about 40 × 30 × 20 cm.
Cabin bag
A larger cabin bag (often up to 55 × 40 × 23 cm and 8–10 kg) goes in the overhead locker. Full-service airlines usually include it; low-cost and basic fares often charge for it.
Checked baggage
Checked bags are commonly 20–23 kg. Your confirmation shows exactly what your fare includes. Extra baggage is cheaper when added before the airport.
Liquids and restricted items
Liquids in hand luggage must be in containers of up to 100 ml in one transparent 1-litre bag, unless the airport uses new scanners. Sharp objects, tools and flammable items are not allowed in the cabin. Power banks and spare lithium batteries must be in hand luggage.
Rules differ between airlines and fares. If you are unsure, send us your booking code and we will check what is included.
